ArcelorMittal is the world's leading steel and mining company. Our goal is to help build a better world with smarter steels. Steels made using innovative processes which use less energy, emit significantly less carbon and reduce costs. Steels that are cleaner, stronger and reusable.
Decarbonisation is the most important aspect of ArcelorMittal’s long-term strategy.
We are aligning with the Paris Agreement’s goals and the European Green Deal by committing to reduce European CO2 emissions by 35% by 2030 and be net-zero by 2050.
XCarb™ brings together all of ArcelorMittal’s reduced, low and zero-carbon products and steelmaking activities, as well as wider initiatives and green innovation projects, into a single effort focused on achieving demonstrable progress towards carbon neutral steel.
XCarb® innovation fund invests in companies developing breakthrough technologies that will accelerate the steel industry’s transition to carbon neutral steelmaking.
XCarb® green steel certificates are designed for flat steel products made from iron ore in a blast furnace. We have several decarbonisation initiatives underway resulting in significant CO2 savings. We can add up these savings and then pass them onto our customers in the form of a certificate, which has been verified by an independent auditor.
XCarb® recycled and renewably produced applies to products made via the Electric Arc Furnace route using scrap steel and 100% renewable energy, giving our finished steel products an extremely low CO2 footprint. With XCarb® recycled and renewably produced, our steel products come now also with a ‘Guarantee of Origin’ certifying the renewable sources for the electricity. Our low CO2 emissions are externally certified and the first environmental product declarations (EPDs) are already available.
